Evernote above the level of a single device

2 May

The life is much easier with the part of web 2.0 technology. Software above the level of a single device can be seen as today we can work or access to the internet from many devices other than only computer. From my point of view “Software above the level of a single device” defines as a word “synchronized”. It is because the synchronization is allowed software can be worked in one account with too many devices.

One of the introducing applications with the topic of Software above the level of a single device is Evernote application. Evernote is a fascinating note taking application that allows you to store your note whatever from web pages, photos, text notes (also word document) or even audio files. Evernote uses the central web-based location to organize the various sources of information into one location (Evernote server). The information will store online and every time the users log in on any devices, the data is automatically backed up to the online storage.

OCR is the feature to read hand written text in picture. The OCR allows user to search the text that contain in the photos that is very useful for quickly searching. However, OCR in free version is unpredictable when compare with the paid version. Also, only paid version is able to search the text in PDFs.

Web clipper:

This feature is alternative way of bookmarking web pages. The Evernote web clipper are available add on for Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari to save the HTML pages.

Encryption:
This offers for the desktop version for the sensitive notes. The users can secure the note by highlighted information, then select “Encrypt Selected Text.” The program asks the user to type in a passphrase to be used to decrypt the information for future access.

However, Evernote free version offers user to upload up to 40 MB per month while if you pay $45 per year, you will get 500 MB a month allowance.

Evernote works with Mac OS 10.5.8 or higher (including OS X 10.6), Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, iPad, iPhone / iPod Touch, Android, BlackBerry, Palm Pre / Palm Pixi, Windows Mobile.

Evernote sounds interesting for me. I like taking notes, but $45/year isn’t fascinating because a lot of applications are free offered (I know, paid applications exist though). Still sounds tempting:)

It sounds interesting. Usually, i like to keep my file into the cloud service because it saves my hard disk storage, but I always use Google dock and Amazon cloud drive, so how different between Evernote and them.

Amazon seems to offer a lot of more storage space. Evernote is just the ideal for keeping you notes or some ducuments online like a USB stick but Amazon is like a hard drive.

Thanks for your introduction of Evernote. It is an interesting service. I’m curious about this kind of the services which use by cloud will replace the existing software in the future or not.
